Cole Gavlas PC Business Support Staff
We have one of the sharpest and most photogenic teams in the accounting profession. There's not one green eye-shade wearer in the bunch and we're even better in person. Pay us a visit so we can learn more about your business and how we might work together.
Angie keeps the whole place running smoothly and connects callers with the right expert on the Cole Gavlas team. She is a central piece of the communication engine at Cole and helps to get information to both clients and staff. In addition to her internal bookkeeping responsibilities, Angie has helped to keep Jeff Cole on time and in the right place for 15 years. She enjoys getting to know firm clients and spends her non-work time with her family or at the golf course.
If you were new to the U.S., Angie would want you to see the following three places:
Business Advisor, Financial Analyst
Julie is a graduate of Western Michigan University and holds a Certification in Strategy and Performance Management and is a SCOPE Advisor. She’s also a bit of a psychic, as she assists clients with a variety of business advisory services, including forecasting, cash flow planning, planning, and budgeting. Instead of working on historical data, Julie’s work is future-focused, ensuring that Cole Gavlas clients are on the path to business success. The best part of her job, according to Julie, is learning about new businesses, and helping clients see their business in a new light.
Julie also gets a kick out of solving unusual QuickBooks® problems. Many of those conversations often begin by the client saying, “I don’t know what I did, but….”
If you want to get her fired up, just ask her to tell you about Kaizen process improvement, and how it can be applied not just to manufacturing, but to business as well. And while you're at it, ask her about the Toast Video and "Muda." (Pronounced Mooda, it’s a Japanese term for wasted time, things you don’t need to be doing.) Spend some time with Julie, and your business will be anything but toast!
Julie and her husband are parents to Jacob and Katie. They enjoy vacationing, canoeing/kayaking, and spending time with friends and family.
Mary joined the Cole Gavlas team in 2006 as our receptionist. Since then, her career with our firm has advanced, and she is now our bookkeeper, working directly with clients in a multitude of ways, from processing their payroll, paying their bills, or keeping their books nice and clean.
Mary is a Quickbooks® expert which allows her to work in all the various versions of the software, including Pro, Premier, Enterprise, and the on-line version. Three-quarters of Cole Gavlas clients rely on Mary to keep their books in order. As for the other 25 percent, Mary is on hand to correct their mistakes, make adjustments, and other bookkeeping housekeeping. (Trust us, you're far better off handing it off to Mary.)
As DISC assessment is one of the business advisory services Cole Gavlas offers, Mary's style is a Coordinating Supporter according to the DISC assessment and her flexibility is an asset in her role.
(If you're unfamiliar with DISC, it's a way to understand how different people communicate. The profile is a report generated in response to an online questionnaire. For the recipient, it provides insight into their unique behavioral style and provides tips for adapting their style to meet the needs of different audiences.)
Married with a five-year-old daughter Nia, Mary recently experienced sending her daughter off to school for a full day. (Mary didn't like it, but she's getting used to the idea.) Besides her husband and child, Mary's family includes her 16-pound cat, appropriately named Bubba.
Originally from Detroit, Mary is very close to sisters and their kids and enjoys weekend trips to Detroit where she will try to catch a Lions game, and spending summer days on the beaches of Lake Michigan.
A 2012 graduate of Western Michigan University, Clay is a jack-of-all-trade in the world of tax preparation. His duties include preparing tax returns, financial statements, and payroll returns, responding to those pesky client notices, and whatever needs to be done on any particular day.
An avid golfer, he can be found on the course right up until the first snow accumulation. And when not golfing, he’s at the gym.
After tax season, Clay plans to return to earn his CPA and MBA.
Jason M. Martin

Jason is a 2002 graduate of Northwood University, where he was starting quarterback for two-times conference champion Timberwolves football team. Keeping sports all in the family, Jason married Melissa, the starting point guard on the Timberwolves’ women’s basketball team.

Jeff Cole and his staff know our business situation very well. During our annual meeting … they plow through that year’s financial numbers and help us plan everything from tax savings strategies to how we can become leaner and more efficient, to estate planning ideas.
